Anurag Thakur: Sports Budget increased by 11%

Anurag Thakur, the union sports minister, said on Wednesday that the sports budget has been increased by 11% and now stands at Rs.3,397 crore.

Further, he declares that Rs.1,000 crores would be allocated to the ‘Khelo India’ campaign, which will focus on the development of sports facilities.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi emphasized the need to expand opportunities for young people to pursue this field. Also, the Sports Ministry will get a budget of Rs.2500 crore this year. This budget has increased by three times since 2014, according to the report.

Narendra Modi praised the sports tradition of Rajasthan for developing the youth’s mental and physical skills. He cited some examples of traditional games like sitolia, dada, and rumal jhapatta, which are held during Makar Sankranti.

Further, he said that this budget prioritizes the underprivileged and will inspire the middle class, farmers, and an aspirational society.
